Weekly Wednesday

Ok I decided instead of weekly trivia I'm going to call it Weekly Wednesday and it will either be sister trivia or just a random question for you to answer.

So this week's question is:

What is the worst (hardest/most disgusting/stupidest) job you can think of? Something that no one could pay you enough to do.

hmmm....this is a toughy too! hahaha uh...i'd say the worst job ever would be a worker at a sewer place, a manuer maker, or i saw this guy on dirty jobs once that made pots out of cow poo...GROSS!!! and anything dealing with bugs...yuck! i'll probably think of a better one later...

those do sound pretty gross!
the one i was thinking about the other day was a Wet Nurse. It is a special thing to be able to nurse your own baby but can you imagine working at a hospital or somewhere where your job was just to sit around and nurse strange babies all day??? ahhhhh
And some rich people still use wet nurses... ugh! I wouldn't want some strange lady nursing my baby!
But the scariest job I can think of would be a window washer for those super tall buildings! How in the world do they do that? That would be so scary to be that high up on just a board with the wind and everything! ahhh

yeah that would be pretty freaky! i didn't think about scary jobs, just gross! and yeah, that's gross!!! why would anyone want someone else to nurse their baby?!?! isn't that one of the major bonding times between a mom and her baby? that's just nasty!

Alrighty...I saw that episode with you, Ash! It was pretty gross, but also pretty cool how they made use of everything - that's how we should live, making complete use of all our resources and not wasting even the strangest things that we don't even pay attention to. They used a dairy to do usual dairy things, then they used the manuer to make pots that would be healthier for plants and not later become garbage. Then they even used the methane from the cows to produce some of the energy used on the dairy. Now there's a way to live! And yuck....that wet nurse thing sounds gross!

Sadly, one thing I would not want to do is work in a nursing home, and that makes me feel kinda bad because it seems a little mean. But it's just one of those things that I've always been a bit grossed out by...I think I'll end that thought there. Then again, in those times when it's not so gross, it probably could be kinda fun (except for the whole depressing aspect). Hm, the group that I worked with at Intel just worked with data flow all day...checking the databases, adding to databases, changing databases....like statistics, only ten times as boring. It was a good summer job, but not something I'd be excited about doing for too long (of course I'd say that, but in reality, I'd probably be fine in a job like that, after all I did enjoy my summer when other people absolutely hated it!).

Oh! I forgot, you brought up scary jobs, too! Alright, if you want to know a scary job, just think along the same lines as a window washer, only you're on just a thin beam seven stories up with rope attached in case the beam just isn't enough. Then, replace the Windex and cloth with an electric-powered welding torch that's spitting out fire. Of course don't forget that there's a million other things going on around you since it's a construction site and you're also wearing a huge thing over face that's so dark you can only see the arc from the torch. Finally, add a sun for good heat while you're covered in thick leather and working with fire, or even a thunderstorm, or snowstorm (yes, welders will still go out in storms!). OR imagine welding under water! Then you can work with electricity in water, have to deal with scuba gear as well as welding gear, AND deal with sharks and other sea life while trying to concentrate on the little flame and ship in front of you. Well, I'm not sure you could pay me enough to become a window washer, but molten metal is just fun, so a construction welder or underwater welder....???? Haha, pretty awesome, but I think I'd rather keep those things indoors.

yikes! that sounds crazy! anything high up or underwater is definitley not an option for me!

hm...where to begin!!! Good ones Ash!!! all those sound bad.. especially the sewer stuff!! YUCK Cass yours is definetely the nappiest!!! thats so gross.. yuck!! hm not sure about the window washer thing though I always thought that it looked like fun.. I like washing windows and being up high. I'm sure it is safer then it looks haha!! same with Bries little welder guy.. if your tied to a rope you are pretty safe. although the heat sounds bad.. but you know you would like it!! none of those sound fun at all though.. I don't like welding cuz you can't look at the flame without the goggles:(.. hah hm well we have seen most episodes of dirty jobs (one of steves favs) but I cannot think of what I would think is the grossest.. probably any sewer related one.. although with enough money i would do just about anything!! haha.. jk ... hm for scariest I would have to go with the coast guard rescue team (from that Ashton Kutcher movie.. although it looks exciting!!) and according to celebrity gossip channels being a personal assistant to certain celebrities can be quite dangerous to!! haha... this is a good idea Cass:)

Mining - Aaron Chapman went away for a summer at some point when he and Rissy were just married to go mine. He said he went down into the cave before the sun came up and back out after it had gone down, so he literally did not see the sun for months (I think about three or so?). I also don't know if he worked over the weekends, but he said he hadn't seen the sun over the whole time. Also not the safest job.

I'm totally serious about the welding job as being completely dangerous! I got lit on fire just in school where they are very serious about the safety measures they take! I found several little holes in my shirt that I weld in, and burned my leg three times doing one weld today...burned right through my jeans and made little red marks on my leg! Shielding gas is used in most welds - so high pressurized gas cylinders are used and can explode just by being handled wrong (many have). My teacher throws in stories about accidents, injuries, and explosions in the middle of his lectures. Put all that on the top of a huge construction site....! Alright, sorry, I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I just watched a video on the more risky welding jobs, and these things seriously are risky. One underwater welder talked about how every time he went down in this one area, an eel would come over and just stay in one place right above his shoulder as if he were watching him weld. That's got to be distracting! They also don't go down in cages - sharks really could swim up to them! Alright I'm sorry, I'll be quiet now...hey wait, I was being quiet the whole time!

i don't understand how you could weld under water...?

Kiera said...

haha oh B! I was not trying to say welding is a safe job by any means I was simply talking about the height part.. like I am sure they are attached to a rope or something incase they fall. I didn't mean the actual welding part.. sorry you are free to defend the safety part.. just don't do it underwater.. doesn't sound fu!! esp thinking of your only scuba diving experience!! haha jk:)

Haha, thanks Kie...I got pretty far down, just need a little practice with the breathing. I told a guy at work about it once because he dives all the time and he said it's hard to find gear that fits right, especially for smaller people, so maybe the gear just didn't fit me right and it wasn't me at all :)

Yeah, it's weird, but you can weld under water!

Cassi said...

wait... brie when did you go scuba diving???

Kiera said...

whatever Brie.. don't make up excuses!!!I know I'm bigger then you but am I so much bigger that the gear totaly fit me so I coul go fantasitcally and big way to huge for you.. whatif!!!.. Keep tryin!!

wow! you guys wrote a LOT since i've been on! geeze! that welding does sound awful! and mining! and yes cass, when we were hawaii we went on a "discovery dive"...i tried to go down, but i was already sea sick from the boat, then i couldn't manage the breathing (which i think part of that was also because of the nausia) and so i had to go back to the boat and threw up on it...b followed close behind me, although she got down in the water farther, so i don't know if you would count anyone as REALLY diving except kie who was in for the whole thing...haha
